Attamit School - teaching about the zodiac constellations

8/20/20251 min read

We taught kids about how the sun goes around the ecliptic, which passes through the 12 (or 13 if we include Ophiuchus) zodiac constellations. In total, fourteen students were selected and took turns to act as the zodiac constellations, the earth and the sun.

The students acted out the earth's motion around the sun, with one round signifying the year, and noting which constellations appear right next to the sun at sunset during each month of the year beginning April. They got to learn that the Thai New Year Songkran is associated with the Sun being right next to Aries (and in Pisces), and why Songkran is considered the New Year.
